Day 19 - Hominids

Today is the 19th day of school. When we came in, we did not work on morning work, but we did do some problems on the computer from our Bits and Pieces math book. Then, we worked on our power points. Once break rolled around, we all got up, and we ate our snacks. Then, we sat back down, and we worked more on our power points. Actually, we finished them. Then we got to play Lure the Labyrinth. We all got hooked on it. But sadly, we had to go to Library, so we did. But when we came back, we got to start some science.

Then, we went to lunch/recess. And today is Friday, so you know what that means. FRIDAY GAME DAY!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAH NOT!!! Yeah, we were all talking, so we DIDN’T get to play. It really sucked. But, I guess we did learn our lesson. So, anyway, we came back, and we corrected our PC, and then we started on the real math lesson. In math, we worked on reading and writing fractions and decimals. Then, we moved right into Social Studies. We learned about hominids. Then, we packed up and went home for a long relaxing weekend!

Then, we moved into break at 10:30 sharp, and we ate. Then, we worked more on our presentation, and all of a sudden, we heard a loud DING!!!! It was our very first fire drill. It scared all of us so badly, that we all jumped an inch right out of our seats! So, we lined up, and we went outside on the bottom field, where we all go if there is a real fire. But fortunately, the fire drill was just practice. Then, we came back and worked more on our presentations for the conferences. Then, we went to music. When we all came back, we did a social studies assessment, and then we went to lunch.

Then, we came back. Since it was a Wednesday, we only had 1 hour left of school. So, we came in, and we finished our assessments, and then, we worked on a workbook from a no-drug company called the Red Ribbon. Then, we graded our assessment, and then we packed up and went home.

We started the day off with some morning work involving circumferences, and diameter, science and social studies, and reading. Then we got onto the computers, and worked on an article that we read yesterday. Then we had to go and answer the questions about the article. Then, we had our break, and we moved right into science. We worked with the microscopes…again. But today, we got to look at our mini ponds, and we got to look at bacteria. FUN! After science, we walked down to the Library, and worked on our Destiny Catalog thingy majiger…………Ms. Joseph never really gave us the name of the assignment. Anyway, after Library, we went back up to the classroom, and we began Social Studies. In this subject, we pretended that our classroom was a cave, and we had to go in and look for artifacts.

Then, we went to lunch/recess. Today is Friday, so you know what that means! It was Game Day!!! We got to play capture the flag. But when the bell sadly rang, we all had to go in and continue working on the cave social studies project. Then, we worked on math and benchmark fractions. After math, we had to go to an assembly for the Jag-A-Thong. Yep, it is that time of year again, folks! After the assembly, we went back to the classroom and did one last question on math. Today is the 9th day of school. When we came in, it was 9:00a.m., and we started the day with morning work. Like any other day, Mr. Steele or Ms. McCreary checked us, and then gave us permission to go and get our computer. Then we started the miraculous and favored name Art. After everyone had begun Name Art, Mr. Steele gave us about 20 minutes and then we had to start science. We discovered what was in our vials. We had sand, yeast, crystals that absorbed water, radish seeds, and…a sea monkey….it was much unexpected. But that’s science, right? When the bell rang at 10:30, we had break. But when the bell rang again at 10:40, we had to go back to our seats. So we began Social Studies. We worked on answering questions about the ancient humans. Then we had to go to library and work on the Destiny homepage and find all the genres of books. After library, we came back in and Mr. Steele explained the rules for Capture the Flag.

Mr. Steele let us watch an animated version of the Midsummer Night’s Dream, but he told us it wouldn’t be as good as the actual thing. This was probably true. Once 11:20 rolled around, we lined up for P.E., with our helmets in hand. When we arrived at the gym, we got the bikes ready, and we went outside. We were able to do the snail race, scan race, and the figure 8. When we came back to the classroom, we observed our vials, and we worked on our maps for S.S. Day 05 - Mummy Mystery

Today was the 5th day of school. After our long, relaxing, weekend, we had to come back and turn our brains back on. We started the day off with some morning work, then we hopped on our computers and we finished and printed our Summer Stories. We then got to work on our name art. It was a bit challenging at first, but then we got good at it, and it became fun and easy…for some people. Once 10:30 rolled around, we had our ten minute break, and we had snack. After our break ended, we got started on science.

For science, we started working on our ponds; we also worked on writing some questions we could use to start an experiment. At 11:15, we went to our specialist. Since today was Monday, we had music. At music, we worked on reading and ‘clapping’ music. It was kind of boring, but we only did it because we had a substitute. After music, we headed back up to the classroom, and cleaned up our science materials. When the bell rang at 12:25, we walked up to the lunchroom, and we ate our lunch. Then we headed out to recess for the next 30 minutes, and we hung out.

When the second bell rang, we went back inside to start on math. We made fraction strips, and then we answered some questions on fractions like, “how can you make half’s into twelfths”? Once we finished math, we started on Language Arts. Mr. Steele had us do reading strategies. We worked on a story called “A Mummy Mystery”. Then we had to silent read, then we packed up, and went home.

Day 04 - Shakespeare

Today is the 4th day of school in Mr. Steele’s 6th grade class! The day started with morning work, and then we jumped right in to writing our stories on the computers. At 11:15 a.m., we headed down to the library for our first library lesson. Ms. Joseph had us working on the computers and creating our passwords for the Juanita El Catalog Destiny page. After library time, we headed back to the classroom and had our first Social Studies lesson. We worked on maps, for the 25 minutes we had!

Then, we all walked up to the lunch room to put some food in our stomachs. Following lunch, we had recess, everyone’s favorite part of the day. Recess consisted of sports, tag, and hanging out with friends. But unfortunately, everything good has to come to an end. So recess ended, and we all ran back to class. So, we started the academics with math, working on the math lesson called “Bits and Pieces”. We worked on division, story problems, and fractions. Right after math, Mr. Steele gave us 10 minutes to finish up our reading assessment. To wrap up the day, we watched a movie about Shakespeare and discussed his plays. The purpose was to get us ready for the Shakespeare play later this year. Well, that’s what happened today in Mr. Steele’s 6th grade class. Until Monday

Today was the 3rd day of school, and boy did we do a lot. When we walked in, we all unpacked and started on our morning work. Then, like any other day, we got on our computers and started working on our essay for what we did this summer. After that, we had our ten minute snack/break. We came back, and started cracking on science. We put things into 3 different categories. Living, nonliving things, and undecided things. When the clock turned to 11:15, we headed down to P.E., since it was Thursday. In P.E., we had to take the pre-test for the bike unit, and then we got to watch the old school video we watch EVERY YEAR. Yippee! But, like any other student, we had to get over it. So we did, and we got through it, and we turned out ok. Anyway, we came back from P.E., and we finished up science.

Then, it was time for lunch, so we scurried down to the lunch room, and ate our food. Then we went out to recess, and we did our own thing. When the bell rang, we went back to the classroom, and then we started math. We worked on prime factorization, and division. Then Mr. Steele gave us a reading assessment that we worked on for the rest of the day. Then we packed up, and went home.
